Attitude Gyro Horizon Indicator, Sperry 672740 H-5 Type COMFAIR JAPAN CessnaThis is a 1950's era Attitude Gyro Horizon Indicator as used in the US Navy Marine Corps Fighter Jet Grumman F9F 5 Cougar and the HUP 1, 3 Helicopter, made by Sperry PN 672740 as a "fast erecting" gyro (as it fast as it could be in the early 1950's). It also has the USN stock # of R88 I 1331, linking it to the F9F 5 as seen in the F9F Flight Manual (see photo of page from manual dated 1955). The gyro was also named as a Type H 5, but is not labeled as

The altitude display is in digitalform

thus has never been opened

including foldouts

Operability unknown

but there is still a metal government seal wired into place at 4 o'clock to provide evidence if opened

It is marked Düse Sedü 3

This indicator is in good condition for its age

as used in aircraft of the RAF

to illuminate the center target

hence the suction gauge in the upper right corner of the Vertical Gyro to indicate the performance status of the pneumatic system
