Description
Jean Noel Gagnard, Chassagne Montrachet Caillerets Vintage:2023(from 35+ year old vines). This is almost always the best 1er in the range and so it is again in 2017 with its restrained and ultra fresh nose of citrus, mineral reduction, white flower and soft spice elements. Here too the middle weight flavors are quite racy though with much more minerality that really emerges on the beautifully persistent finish where the firm core of ripe acidity makes clear that this beauty is going to require patience. (91 94)
(this limited two barrel cuvée is crafted from 70+ year old vines that abut the Musigny climat which is also called La Combe d'Orveau and is a monopole of Domaine Jacques Prieur)
There is almost painful intensity to the beautifully delineated and mineral-driven broad-shouldered flavors that possess a highly refined textured before culminating in an almost crisp
floral and wild red berry scents
bilberry and light estuarine scents that gently waft from the glass
(from 5 different parcels located in La Columbière
60 ha parcel)
with lots of red currant
this is a powerful wine that needs time to settle down
This will require the better part of a decade to fully resolve the slightly rustic tannic spine
Starting the following year
all wrapped in a strikingly long
cedar and anise
