Very Rare Antique Japanese Military Taiwan Conquest Lacquer Army Sake CupThis is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a map of Taiwan with the name of the island on the map, plus a half badge of the Order of Rising Sun. The words on the back are "1st Imperial Guards Infantry 3rd Company" and in the center "Victorious Return Commemoration". This suggests it is from the 1895 Japanese suppression of Taiwan after they acquired it from the Qing troops were sent to take over the island and local armed resistance

and a dragonfly (I think)

with the word "Gift" on top

and cherry blossoms

The back of the cup has the words "Made by Kutani

Condition: Excellent - there's some surface damage on the coconut shells

and the words "Leaving the service commemoration" "40th Infantry"

decorated with a kiri of the 3-5-3 leaves variety

The words on the back are a registered design of the saucer

and the words "Manchuria Dispatch Leaving the Service Commemoration" "Army Medic Department"
